    ...
Description: About 18 inches long, barn owls are large, with long legs and a heart shaped facial disk. They are golden brown above and white or buff below. They lay 4 - 7 white eggs which hatch in 32 - 34 days. The young leave the nest in about 2 months.

Habitat:  Barn owls live in open areas, farmland, deserts, marshes, as well as suburbs. They nest in barns, trees cavities, holes in cliffs and nest boxes, using just the bard floor.

Foods:  They eat insects, mice, rats, bats, and other small animals.

This long legged bird is unique among American owls, belonging to a separate family. The white, heart shaped face and dark eyes identify it. The light buff plumage is conspicuious, but this owl is rarely seen by day, and the hissing call that t gives at night is not often heard. It nests in barns, belfries, and hollow trees, and is important in controlling rodents injurious to orchards and garden crops. It range is worldwide.
