    Description: About 11 inches long, gray above and lighter below, they have white wing bars and white eggs on their black tails. The female lays 2 - 6 blue green eggs with brown marks which hatch in 12 - 13 days. The young leave the nest 10 - 13 days after hatching.

    Habitat: Mockingbirds live in open areas, parks, gardens, and farmlands. They build a nest in a shrub or tree, using twigs, leaves, grass and other natural and man made materials.

    Foods: They eat insects, spiders, fruits and berries.

    Facts: "listen to the mockingbird..." goes the song, and the mockingbird is, indeed, worth hearing. Its song imitates others birds songs perfectly, with original phrases added. Mockingbirds nest around homes, perch on chimneys and television antennas. White patches on wings and tail are conspicuous in flight. The loggerhead Strike (7 in), which also perches on wires and fences, is chunkier with a thick bill and black mask.

    Did you know?: Mockingbirds can imitate the sounds of many other birds, They sing all day long and often at night. They will defend their territory against other birds, cats, snakes, and people.
