Scarlet Tanager
    Description: About 7 inches long, the male, during mating season, is brilliant scarlet with black wings and tail. In fall, he turns a greenish color with black wings and tail. female is greenish above and yellow below with dark wings. They hatch in about 2 weeks and the young leave the net 9 - 11 days later.

    Habitat: Tanagers live in orchards and woodlands. They build a shallow cup like nests of twigs, grass and stems near the tip of a branch.

    Foods: They eat insects, spiders and wild berries.

    Did you know?: The male is a ventriloquist and protects himself by sounding as though he's many yards away.
