Whooping Crane
    Description: About 55 inches tall with very long necks and legs, they are white with black tips and red patches on the face and head. The female lays 1 - 3 buff or greenish eggs with dark marks. The eggs hatch in 34 - 355 days, and three young leave the nest almost immediately, making their first flight in 100 -115 days.

    Habitat: Whooping cranes are found in northern Canada and is southern states near the coast. They spend summers on freshwater marshes and winters on saltwater marshes. Their nests are mounds of grasses in shallow water.

    Foods: they eat shellfish, reptiles, fish and parts of plants.

    Did you know?: Whooping cranes were almost extinct. In order to save them, eggs laid by birds in captivity are given to sand hill cranes to raise, but they are still an endangered species.
