Eclipse
Because the Sun is 400 times larger
than the Moon, but nearly 400 times farther away from Earth, the Sun appears
to be similar in size to the Moon when we see them in the sky. Thats how
it seems possible on occasion for the Moon to cover the Sun for a brief
time when it passes between Earth and the Sun. When Sun, Earth and
the Moon align in space perfectly it causes what it know a an eclipse.
There are tow types of eclipses one is a solar eclipse, and the other is
a lunar eclipse. There are between 4 to 7 eclipses every year. total
solar eclipse (when only the Sun's outer atmosphere, or corona, is visible)
is rare and can on be seen from certain spots on Earth, Partial and annular
eclipse the moon is far enough from Earth that it cannot entirely block
off the Sun. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth casts its own shadow
up in the Moon as it passes between the Sun and the Moon. These accur
more frequently, last much longer, and can nb seen from anywhere on Earth.
