                            A Precious Life
            In the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 21, 1999. God called home one of his children.  Cheryl Sparks.  Cheryl shared her compassion, her pain, and love.  She was a unique light that shined in the hearts of many.  However, God spoke on Wednesday, January 20, 1999. He reached down and picked up our dear one, Cheryl.
            A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cheryl Sparks was born to Doris F. Fox and the late Earl Fontanilla on September 21, 1956. Cheryl was the baby and the only girl of the Fontanilla family.  Being reared in a christian home, Cheryl labored in God's vineyard by constantly evangelizing to others the Good News. She began "Christian Walk" at Woodland Avenue Baptist Church.
            Throughout the years, proud smiles as she did Gods work participating in the choirs, ushering, feeding the needy, promoting missions, handling seasonal decorations, being the pastors secretary, and taking part in various other organizations in the church.
            Cheryl graduated from Kempsville High School. In 1979, Cheryl graduated from Norfolk State University with a BS degree in Special Education.  With God's blessings, Cheryl graduated from the Evan-Smilth leadership Training Institute of Theology with a certificate in Religious Studies in 1994.  Cheryl loved to learn...
            Cheryl was an energetic teacher at W.T.. Cooke Elementary School.  She enjoyed teaching others.  At Cooke, Cheryl enhanced the lives of both young and old.  A Black Culture Club was organized as a result of Cheryl's desire to embrace and claim the gifts of African American heritage at Cooke.  This organization later became the Culture Club...
            Cheryl loved to laugh, joke, prey, travel, and discuss different issues with her family.  It was a rare occasion to not find Cheryl in Sunday evening eating with her family around the kitchen table,.  Annually when family reunion time came around, CHeryl helped to plan the weekend festivities.
            The memories are left to cherish by her loving husband- Lewis,  Mother- Doris, four brothers, A special Aunt. and friends and co- workers..

            Weep Not, weep not, Cheryl is not dead;
            She's resting in the bosom of Jesus.
            Heart-broken husband, Lewis weep no more;
            Grief stricken mother, Doris weep no more;
            Left lonesome Fontanilla & Sparks family weep no more;
            Cheryl's only just gone home.
            And Jesus took his own hand and wiped away her tears,
            ]and he smoothed the furrws from her face,
            and the angels sang a little song,
            and Jesus rocked her in his arms,
            and kept a saying: Take your rest, take you rest.
            Weep not weep not
            Cheryl is not dead;
            She resting in the bosom of Jesus.
