Parasaurolophus
(par-ah-sawr-ol-o-fus)
Length: 30 feet
Lived during: Late Cretaceous
Found: Alberta, Utah, New Mexico
Name Means: Similar crested lizard.
It used to be thought that this plant eaters long
crest may have acted as a snorkel. Since there was no opening at
the end, though, this could not have been. However, every breath
that Parasaurolophus took passed through the crest, so it could have had
something to do with the sense of smell. some scientist now think
it may have helped the animal make a sort of honking sound.
Lived at the same time as: Ankylosaurus, Gallimimus,
Maiasaura, Protoceratops, Pteranodon, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor
